Did you know?…More than 50% of all children born with congenital heart defect will require at least one invasive surgery in their lifetime.
The Adventist Heart Fund was established in August 2010 with the mission to help fund corrective heart surgery for underprivileged children who are suffering from congenital heart diseases. Congenital heart disease (CHD) is a defect, or abnormality of the heart or blood vessels near the heart, which exists at birth. Each year, over one million babies around the world are born with a congenital heart defect (March of Dimes).
The majority of children born today with CHD will survive and with timely medical treatment, will be able to lead normal or near-normal lives free from disease.
Since its inception, the Adventist Heart Fund has touched the lives of many children with more than 300 families benefitting so far. It is through the cooperative efforts between benevolent donors, dedicated physicians and Hong Kong Adventist Hospital that these children have been able to receive the necessary corrective surgeries, enabling them now to live healthy and happy lives.
